Achievement First: A Story-Driven Video Campaign for Teacher Recruitment

I led a story-driven video campaign to support teacher recruitment at Achievement First, turning authentic educator voices into the network's strongest brand differentiator in a competitive hiring landscape.

The Challenge

Achievement First — a K–12 public charter network serving 40 schools across three regions — needed to attract high-quality educators in a tight market, against employers with larger budgets and more brand recognition.

Traditional recruitment messaging lacked emotional connection and didn't fully capture what it actually feels like to teach at AF: the support, the coaching, the belief in student potential, the mission-driven community.

My Thinking

The opportunity was to shift from transactional messaging to story-driven storytelling. I identified that the most compelling differentiator was the experience of working at AF — not the package, but the people and the mission. So I focused on:

  • Real voices over scripted messaging

  • Emotional connection over information-heavy content

  • Storytelling that shows, rather than tells

The Approach

A. Narrative Development
Built a story arc highlighting growth, experience, and impact.

B. Interview-Driven Storytelling
Centered authentic teacher and staff voices to build trust with candidates.

C. Scriptwriting & Messaging
Balanced emotional storytelling with clear messaging and calls to action.

D. Cross-Functional Collaboration
Worked with creative teams to align storytelling, visuals, and messaging across channels.

The Outcome

  • Strengthened the emotional resonance of recruitment marketing

  • Created cohesive, story-driven video assets usable across channels

  • Clarified brand positioning around support, coaching, and mission impact

  • Elevated the network's overall storytelling approach for recruitment and beyond

What I’d Do Next

  • Add performance tracking across the full recruitment funnel

  • Test messaging variations against different candidate personas

  • Expand into short-form and social-first video
